The Slovenian Environmental Agency (ARSO) organised a National Conference for Slovenian stakeholders of the I-STORMS Project in Koper, on November 15, 2019. At the Conference, the achievements of the Project were presented, as well as the work of ARSO on forecasting the state of the sea and the weather on the coast
The sea storms hazard is particular relevant for Slovenia, and for other coastal countries of the ADRION region, increasing sea levels and causing floods on lower coastal areas, as well as coastal erosion, which in turn impact on ecosystems, coastal industry and infrastructure, causing major economic damage and severe consequences for a wide range coastal activities.
The Network of organisations, established through the I-STORMS Project will take care of promoting mutual cooperation and the exchange of data and forecasts of meteorological situations – e.g. strong winds, low air pressure – which can cause flooding of coastal areas.
Representatives of coastal municipalities, protection and rescue structures, as well as organisations operating in the coastal zone attended the National Conference. They expressed a desire to continue the dialogue and enthusiastically supported the ongoing work on forecasting flood events on the coast.
